Opening Reception Saturday September 29 4-6pm

What’s for Dinner? Photographs by Diana Shearwood

September 26 – November 24, 2007

Canadian photographer, Diana Shearwood, documents trucks and the huge advertising photographs that embellish them as they travel cross-country to deliver food miles away from where it has been grown. This exhibition features seductive, colorful inkjet prints. Once the viewer realizes that the images of delicious, mouth-watering food are wrapped around 18-wheeler trucks, it sets in motion a thought process about the food we eat, how it is delivered to us, and more.

Dimensions for Vanishing Points

About Adam Grossi:

Adam Grossi is a painter, video/performance artist and writer. The paintings, prints, and drawings featured in this show, entitled Dimensions for Vanishing Points , are an exploration into cultural imagery: from advertising photographs, to the pamphlets that sell houses or medications, to the diagrams that explain bone structures and wind currents. Refusing to acknowledge the boundaries between these methods of visual communication, Grossi's hybrid compositions offer welcome mats as they simultaneously pull the rug out from underneath our feet.

He received his BFA from Carnegie Mellon University. His paintings have been exhibited at Pittsburgh's Mattress Factory, the Three Rivers Arts Festival, and the Greater Reston Arts Center in Virginia. Currently, Grossi is headed to Chicago to pursue an MFA at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Fine Art Photography by Rick Byerly at the Photo Fourm, USX Tower

Fine Art Photography by Rick Byerly at the USX Tower

Rick Byerly's Black and White and Color Photos from Lake Superior will be on display and for sale at the Photo Forum,USX Tower Lobby from Thursday, September 13 until Thanksgiving, 2007. The work is located in the lobby next to the main elevators.
Archival Images From Shifting Lake Superior Ice Shelves
In March 2007 I traveled Minnesota’s North Shore of Lake Superior to find that high powered winds had crashed miles of numerous ice shelves into each other. I trekked them for several days, finding that the sun was changing the exterior patterns of the shelves by the minute. The black and white images celebrate seldom seen perspectives of ice shelve formations using zoom and macro lenses. I used a professonial digital slr camera and converted the images to black and white using color filters in photoshop.
The color images include unusual blue ice formations, ice figures, and water-themed imagery from Lake Superior from the winter and early spring of 2007. I found the unusual blue ice formations and figures on the moving ice shelves in March near Duluth. Sometimes when snow and ice form, red light is absorbed while the blue is transmitted and collisions and compression of ice increase the occurrences.

Ever trekked through a desert landscape, dived into sand dunes, listened to the sound of creatures living underground? You can feel this when exploring the synthetic desert landscape Ms. Coleman and her team of international artists have created. -- In a 70-minute journey through space and time, Grisha Coleman's performance installation, echo::system: The Desert, immerses audiences and performers in a fully synthetic environment comprised of audio and visual media, movement sensors and robotics mixed with live music, dance and performance. This interactive setting recreates a desert eco-system simultaneously made up of virtual and "real" space, displaying how one affects the other. To simulate the fluidity of the natural world, the sonic and technological elements of the installation constantly shift and regenerate as the story unfolds. This artificial desert landscape transpires into a futuristic tale of an ancient species that interfaces with its future. -- There will be a post-performance talk-back with actors and creative staff following the performances on September 12 and September 13.

Echo::System

Installation/performance conceived and created by Grisha Coleman
http://www.newhazletttheater.org/event/?event_id=87
September 6, 2007–September 16, 2007

Ever trekked through a desert landscape, dived into sand dunes, listened to the sound of creatures living underground? You can feel this when exploring the synthetic desert landscape Ms. Coleman and her team of international artists have created.

In a 70-minute journey through space and time, Grisha Coleman's performance installation, echo::system: The Desert, immerses audiences and performers in a fully synthetic environment comprised of audio and visual media, movement sensors and robotics mixed with live music, dance and performance.
